Work on Proctor’s Ledge Memorial Continues apace

As of early May, the crevasse along Pope St is getting dug out, and the first curbstones are being laid. A heavy black chain link fence has been installed along the top of the crevasse to prevent modern visitors from falling into the crevasse. Contemporary accounts of the 1692 events record that bodies of the hanged were thrown into a crevasse, but it is unknown whether the crevasse where the memorial is going is that same crevasse. Most victims were recovered stealthily by family members, and it is unlikely that any remains still lie in the crevasse.
